In Sight: A Global Bioeconomy, Growing in America’s Heartland

At POET, we believe the future belongs to those who innovate. The ones who hold the power to change the world are those who refuse to be satisfied with the status quo. Because of that belief, our story has always been one of growth and change, and this year was no exception.

But for us, growth has never been about size alone — it’s about purpose. Every investment we make strengthens our ability to fuel and feed the world through the power of American agriculture, and that is being proven true today more than ever as we gain momentum both in the U.S. and across the globe.

In September, we completed the acquisition of POET Bioprocessing – Obion. This facility strategically complements our plant network in many ways, growing our production capacity by 120 million gallons per year, increasing our workforce by 70 new team members, and becoming our third site for POET Corn Fermented Protein. In addition, its location in northwestern Tennessee has geographic synergy with our existing footprint, strengthening our access to southeastern markets for bioethanol, distillers grains, and bioCO2.

Perhaps most notably, this acquisition highlights our confidence in the future of this industry and reinforces our position as the world’s largest producer of biofuel, with a combined annual capacity of 3.1 billion gallons. The POET portfolio now includes 35 bioprocessing facilities, four terminals, three corporate offices, and two international locations, spanning 14 U.S. states and three countries.

These numbers are more than just statistics — they represent real progress toward a global bioeconomy powered by American ingenuity. Every POET location plays a vital role in creating jobs, bolstering rural economies, and turning grain grown by our farmers into a suite of valuable bioproducts that serves an ever-growing base of customers around the world.

This year, POET was named the 15th-largest container shipper in the U.S. by S&P’s Journal of Commerce, an incredible milestone that speaks volumes about the growing global demand for American-made energy and bioproducts. To put it in perspective, in 2021 we ranked 36th on that list; today, we’ve surpassed household names like Walmart, Tyson Foods, and DuPont. In 2024 alone, POET exported nearly 40,000 containers (an 18% increase over the previous year) to 25 countries. Much of that growth can be attributed to our animal feed ingredients as POET Bioproducts gains worldwide recognition as a quality feed supplier, opening doors to new international markets for U.S. grain.

When I think about how far we’ve come from our original one-million-gallon plant in South Dakota, I’m truly humbled. Our growth is a reflection of the extraordinary power of a meaningful vision, a clear purpose, and a determined team. POET’s achievements this year and the continued momentum of this industry underscore one undeniable truth: the world is recognizing that solutions rooted in agriculture are not only possible — they’re essential. I’ve said before that the future of bioprocessing is bright, and I believe that now more than ever. As always, POET will remain steadfast in our mission, focusing on purposeful growth as we continue to drive toward a global Biofuture rooted in the power of the sun, the soil, and the seed.
