Perspective: How confident are you that gas prices will remain low for the next 6-8 months? What do you consider to be a leading driver of GAS PRICES?

“It’s really hard to tell what gasoline prices are going to do. It seems like they pretty much go up and down anytime they want to. I think big oil’s greed is the biggest driver of gasoline prices.”

DICK CARLSON, LAFONTAINE, INDIANA

“I’m fairly confident that the prices will remain low for at least six months, but I’d hate to speculate beyond that. I assume that the main driver of gasoline prices is the price of crude oil from the Middle East, but I don’t know that for sure.”

JOHN MYERS, GEORGETOWN, ILLINOIS

“I don’t know that they’ll stay as low as they are right now, but I do believe they will stay fairly low for that period of time. I think there’s an oversupply of oil on the market right now. But whatever it is, I enjoy it.”

MIKE DEVORE, NORTH FORT MYERS, FLORIDA

“I’m hopeful they’ll stay low, but I’m not overly confident that that will happen. I think the primary drivers are supply and demand, but there are a lot of other complexities that figure into it too – regional refining or transportation problems, international situations, things like that.”

SHELLY BOONE, NP, URBANA, INDIANA

“I’m not confident they’ll stay low at all. I think they will go up in the next six to eight months and go up pretty high. There are state, federal and local taxes, plus I think the oil companies and politicians also have some responsibility for the level of prices. Also, our prices here are some of the highest around. I was told that when asked why the local stations charged so much, one owner said ‘because we can.’”

SUSAN FISHER, WABASH, INDIANA
