Changing the World Starts at Home

POET hosts its fifth annual Earth Day community clean-up

While Earth Day might be a one-day observance for many, at POET, it’s a celebration of the values that guide the company year-round. This year marked POET’s fifth annual Earth Day community clean-up event, and more than 100 team members stepped out of the office and into three local parks to make a visible impact on the community they call home.

Yankton Trail, Dunham, and Nelson Parks all received a little extra care on Earth Day this year, as POET volunteers collected litter, cleared debris, helped with maintenance, and left each space looking refreshed. For a company whose mission centers on community and stewardship, events like these are just one of the many ways POET team members live its mission.

“At POET, the spirit of Earth Day is reflected every day in the work we do to create a cleaner, healthier planet,” said Miranda Broin, Director of Executive Communications. “We’re proud to call Sioux Falls home, and this event is one of the ways we live out our mission to be good stewards of the earth and good neighbors. Coming together to serve our community is a great team-builder and an important reminder that changing the world starts right here at home.”

That philosophy isn’t limited to the company’s Sioux Falls headquarters. Each year, POET organizes company-wide Earth Day efforts across all 34 of its bioprocessing facilities and corporate locations, including its Wichita office. These initiatives range from tree plantings and school presentations to highway cleanups and local park restoration efforts. The message is clear: giving back is not a siloed department — it’s a shared responsibility.

Whether it’s turning homegrown corn into cleaner-burning biofuel or picking up trash in a local park, POET’s mission to make the world a better place remains steadfast. Earth Day may only come once a year, but at POET, the work never stops.

POET’s Earth Day tradition highlights the power of teamwork and local pride. By stepping out into the community and taking time to give back, POET team members are making a difference in the places they live and work — and making the world a better place, one hometown at a time.

“By encouraging team members to engage directly with our home communities, we strive to uphold a culture of action and accountability,” Broin. “Earth Day is a reminder that small acts can be an important part of something much bigger.”
